Jakarta Indonesia is currently preoccupied with the physical refurbishment of Jakarta and Bandung as well as comprehensive planning on security measures.
These large- scale preparations are deemed necessary as the country counting days approaching to the long-awaited 60 Asia- Africa Conference Commemoration event.
Physical refurbishment of the two cities where the event will be held is imperative as Indonesia aims to illustrate a desirably clean and well managed presentation of the two cities in front of highly– reputable foreign delegations from various nations.
Half of the 72 participating countries reported to have been planning to send off their top officials at the Presidential or Prime Ministerial level as representatives for their country.
Therefore, it is of a great importance for such physical refurbishment done in the two cities as it is the host's expectation to have foreign representatives complimenting and forming positive first impressions towards the two cities. The two leading cities will immediately reflect the nation as a whole.
Apart from time-consumed on physical preparations of Jakarta and Bandung, the government also took a considerable amount of time discussing security strategy as to anticipate any unwanted event. With many respectable individuals from various nations confirming their attendance to the event, it is unquestionable that the potentiality of harm or threats directed to them is possible. Thus, intensification on measure surrounding this aspect will be greatly enhanced.
There has been a growing assumption suggesting the Indonesian security forces exaggerated and violent mission to shoot whoever tries to get close to the foreign delegations.
That assumption, however, remains an assumption as the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander, Moeldoko immediately denied and corrected the false report. He explained how security measures, including for the VVIP guest have differentiated standards.
According to him, shooting down people just because the person refuses to obey to the proximity set by security forces is not acceptable as it is evidently inhumane and instead of giving foreign delegations a good impression of the country, such action would only provoke conflict, worst yet warfare.
"Security procedure for VVIP has its own standards. We don't just shoot people as we desire just because the person cross the boundaries. We firstly have to observe the level of threat such person could impose on the guest. But surely, we would resort to shooting down a person if he/she presents an evidence of harmful threats," Commander Moeldoko informed, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/4/2015).
So, Commander Moeldoko did not fully reject the notion of immediately shooting down a person. But this only applies to evidently-confirmed dire situation where lives are at stake.
For minor threats, Commander Moeldoko instructed his men to sort it out diplomatically and act accordingly with the right manner as to show the security forces ability to address issue with a pacifist gesture in spite of their rigid and heavily-armed appearances.
The 60 Asia- Africa Conference Commemoration will be held in Jakarta from the 19 to 23 of April and in Bandung on the 24 of April 2015. The events primary agenda covering issues such as 'Asia- Africa Business Summit' and 'Asia- Africa Carnival'.
The event is themed with mounting need for furtherance of mutually- beneficial cooperation among Asia and Africa countries as well as the urgency to improve citizens of Asia and African nations welfare. Peace is also a subject of great significance that will be discussed in detailed.
