Jakarta - Indonesia is one among several countries in the world whose nuclear power plant construction is currently underway. The imminent scarcity of oil fuel supply in Indonesia will soon transform, from mild to acute concern of population who have spent most of their lifetime relying heavily on the availability of oil for household and vehicular purposes.
The Indonesian government sought for the development of nuclear power plants as to anticipate the unwanted future of lacking in oil as fuel supply. Nuclear power plant has been viewed as the most appropriate substitute to soon-diminishing energy sources that have governed the population's day to day activity.
Initially, the notion of nuclear power plant establishment is faced with dozens of challenging arguments which mostly question its actual purposes and overall assurance to its safety usage.
Many dwell on the notion that nuclear power plant is directly associated to weapon and is synonymous to instrument of mass of destruction. But government assures worried population by claiming that it is for peaceful purposes such as a substitute to energy sources, that are becoming scare and to supply electricity needs especially in Indonesian regions that are still lacking in electricity power supply.
With the power plants currently under construction, Indonesia is now seeking for those who have the capability to run the overall operation of the nuclear power plant sites. Even with the country housing individuals with many people with insurmountable capabilities, there are still very few who show interest or ability in mastering this particular area.
Indonesia actually has a university that facilitates students with knowledge exertion placed particularly on nuclear technology, and is called Nuclear Technology University (STTN) of the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) located in Yogyakarta. The University has been accommodating students with interest in that specific area and encourages them to develop nuclear as positive energy source to facilitate everyone electricity and power needs.
On Wednesday 26 August 2015, the University held a graduation ceremony for Class of 2015 with as many as 77 graduates now crowned with Bachelor of Applied Science. This comes as good news for Indonesia as it means the country has human resources from the subsequent generation to make some drastic change and contribute to the making of available energy through nuclear technology establishment.
Human resources, particularly in the field of nuclear technology is high on demand as 94% of worldwide industries require scientists and workers who have been specializing in that particular subject.
Indonesia too, in need of these people as the country currently sought for renewable energy as a substitute to gradually diminishing fossil fuel which is limited in nature.
"Nuclear industry is currently developing very well and we need specific accuracy to maintain such desirable development. Indonesia needs its subsequent generation to have the inherent and advanced capability in developing safe and harmless nuclear energy which will be used for positive purposes," Head of The Nuclear Technology University, Sutomo Budiharjo explained.
"31 out of 77 graduates have worked in various nuclear technology sectors," he further explained.
BATAN STTN even yields the privilege for its students to attain scholarship opportunities to learn more of nuclear technology abroad.
